Easy Ways to Save Space With Your Lift Up Storage Bed
Posted on
As condo sizes keep getting smaller, people are using more functional furniture like a lift up storage bed to maximize their home’s space. There are a growing number of “micro-lofts” under 300 square feet being built for residents.
But no matter how big or small houses are, a home is a home where people want to host friends and family.
In addition to having a presentable place for your guests, there are other subconscious benefits of having a clean room. We often don’t realize the subtle short and long term impacts of living in an organized space. And the science proves it!
The
subconscious benefits of keeping a clean room
1) People with clean houses are healthier and more active than those with messy houses.
This finding was based on the research of scientist NiCole R. Keith and her team at Indiana University. They tracked the physical health of 998 African Americans between the ages of 49 and 65 because this group of people were known to have an increased risk of heart disease. 1
2) Women who described their living spaces as “cluttered” or full of “unfinished projects” were more likely to be depressed and fatigued than women who described their homes as “restful” and “restorative.”
This feedback was based on a study published in the scientific journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.”2The researchers studied the ways 60 women spoke about their homes. They also learned that the people who had cluttered homes said they had higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
3) Clutter can make it harder to focus on a task.
A study at Princeton University found that the visual part of our brain can be overwhelmed by irrelevant objects, making it harder to finish important tasks efficiently. 3.
Thankfully, there are great solutions for small rooms and a modern storage bed is a versatile way of organizing large and small items to clear the clutter.
Do
these 2 things before you store your stuff
Step 1: Put all of the stuff around your house in a pile and ask yourself “What can I get rid of?”
How many times have you said, “I’ll keep this just in case I need it one day”?
It’s easy for us to quickly pile up stuff with the very small chance that we’ll use it sometime in the future. Before we know it, we have unused clothes, old gadgets, and books we never read taking over our home.
Whenever we moved, we didn’t think we had a lot of stuff until we unpacked all of the layers and found things we thought we lost years ago!
One way to decide what you should keep and what you should ditch is if you haven’t used something in the last six months or more, you’re not likely to use it at all. Would you really miss it or even notice it wasn’t there?
Probably not.
Step 2: Ask yourself “Which items will I realistically use on a daily, weekly or monthly basis?”
Keep whatever you need to use regularly in an accessible area so you don’t need to keep lifting up the bed to get it. But if you really want the exercise, go for it!
Put all the stuff you use a few times a month or every few months in separate piles. This could be books, travel bags, camping gear, or winter clothes.
3
ways to effectively organize things under your mattress
Now that you have your “to keep” and “not to keep” piles, you can use these three ways to make your home more organized with your space-saving bed:
- 1)Use sub compartments
One you’ve figured out how often you need to access your stuff, it’s easy choose among the many compartment styles that would would be best. It’s also useful to have the foldable ones so you can add more space as you need.
- 2)Roll your clothes
If you haven’t tried rolling your clothes when packing, try it out and see how much more you can fit in the same space! It’s a great home experiment that may surprise you.
- 3)Turn your suitcase and bags into a mini closet
When you’re not traveling and exploring the world, you can use your suitcases or travel bags to store your things. Don’t forget to use your backup purses for small items.
Ta-da!
Now you have more room in your beautiful home.
A lift up storage bed can help you experience the benefits of an organized living space so you can finish important tasks faster, improve your health, and comfortably host your beloved guests.
